The Origins, Migration Routes and Settlement Of Collo People

INTRODUCTION
They call themselves Collo and other people groups call
them Shilluk. The Collo is one of the Nilotic ethnic groups
that dwells along the Nile in South Sudan. Generally, the
Nilotic are found in Bahr el Ghazal, Equatoria, and Upper
Nile states. The three biggest ethnic community in this
group are the Dinka, Nuer and Collo. The Collo ethnic
community is one of five ethnic groups now inhabiting
Midwest Upper Nile state in South Sudan, the others being
Dinka, Nuer, Koma, and Maban. It is one of the Luo groups in
South Sudan (Acholi, Anyuak, Baland Bwoer, Luo of Bahr el
Ghazal, and Pari). The location of the Chollo Kingdom on the
Nile has exposed them to dangers from both European, and
Arab Aggressors. Slavery and slave trade and modernity
– Christianization an Islamization have tremendously
affected the Collo
